Major Maintenance Due For Airbus A380s

In response to pressure from a major customer, Airbus has announced it may launch both a reengined version of the A380 and a stretched version of the giant widebody in the next decade. These possibilities have caused some to worry that the A380 orderbook, never very large, might be challenged by interest in more-attractive derivatives. (aviationweek.com) 기타...

Too well aware of the absence of the Arkansas jet driver. He offered me a job once. Buried my 90 year old uncle last week due to the after effects of Harvey. He was merchant marine in WW 2 and Navy aircraft mech. in Korea. Leads to a strong sense of nostalgia and I semi regularly reread some of the repartee enjoyed between Wayne and I over the years. Met him here. Cheers!

Sorry about your loss. I too met Wayne here and exchanged many private emails with him explaining what the doctors had been telling him (and not telling him). I often read comments on FA and think to myself that Wayne would have agreed or disagreed with the opinion.

We are cleaning up after Irma which went right over top of us....I lost three roofs but had only one leak. My lanai ended up in the nearest pasture along with many roof tiles. Will need a crane to get trees off the roof of the barn. Spent yesterday doing "D Checks" detailing refrigerators after 12 days with no power or water. We all survived which is all that is important.

Sincere congrats. on surviving Irma, and after losing three roofs, only one leak is at least a small "gift". LOL on D checks and refrigerators. My uncles home had three feet of water in it and the day after he saw the result he sat down in my cousins easy chair and resigned.

Thanks for the condolences, sadly they are piling up with the years but never fill the holes. I lament not having the opportunity to sit right seat for that guy. Adieu my friend and best of luck with the reconstruction.

Not much news here those items are a known expense when they were bought. The only thing above that would be any added AD notes on them along with rising wages.

Yeah, but I figure that "Major Customer" Emirates, might have looked at what a cash cow they were on the front end and not look at that back end money that has to be spent. They are talking another 100 380's. They could wind up being an AB shareholder if they aren't careful. The oil rich folks own everything else.

Lots of oil in the Emirates, but little remaining in Dubai. The other Emirates, especially Abu Dhabi, have had to bail Dubai out especially when the bottom fell out of the real estate market. It is recovering but there is not a huge amount of loose cash hanging around without getting it from their "cousins".

On the other hand Qatar is rolling in cash with the world's highest per capita income. It has the money to buy substantial pieces of major airlines.

Kinda reminds me of the story of the Saudi prince who bought a very pricy London jewelry store that he frequently shopped because they made so much money. After the sale the profits dropped off dramatically and he pressed his bean counters for the reason sales were off so much. Guess who their biggest spending customer was? Emirates and Airbus may not be wed, but they are certainly in bed.

Would be interesting to look at $4 spend by Emirates. My guess is that Boeing is the current winner. Interested in comments about the A388 secondary market. Honda and Toyota remain market leaders because of their "resale" value and how it impacts the total cost of ownership as opposed to original purchase price.

There is none. They are already talking about parting out lease returns from Singapore and Malaysia carriers.

The next five years will be interesting for the A-380. In addition to the heavy increase in costs outlined in the article other factors will be in play. Will the business concept of an "International Hub" be sustainable for Super Jumbos as the A-350's and 787's come on line to provide point to point service bypassing the desert.

Will Emirates have to "downsize" their fleet to the 777 size not only to fill seats thereby lowering cost per seat mile. A stretched version may only be sustainable on a few heavily traveled routes like New York to London.

If Emirates decides to lay up some of their older models, what do you do with them. Not much of a market for a high expense aircraft with limited use. Unlike the MD-11 that got snatched up by cargo airlines, there is not exactly a market for this aircraft with limited use.

Undoubtedly if rumor is true that Boeing is offering the 748 to Emirates, these will be points made by the salesmen.
