In today's polarized political world if someone was planning to vandalize or burglarize a senator's home it would be useful for the would-be vandal or burglar to know that the senator and his family were out of the country and when they planned to return.

If the senator's office wanted the public to be informed then his office could issue a press release or give the information to inquirers.

But I feel an airline should strongly discourage its employees from sharing this kind of information.

I imagine there is a policy against releasing any customer information to any party unless that party authorizes it.
I am required to take periodic privacy training. I expect every major company that has a pool of customer personally identifiable information has strict policies on what can and cannot be done with that data.

Should be automatic that termination as too much is getting leaked many of those leaks need to have the person fired period.

this was a public service leaking incident, so don't get so huffy about it. Not substantial harm was done here.

So, Patrick, I am guessing you would be okay if a business you patronize decided to release personally identifiable information about you to the public?

Put your address up here. I imagine a rent-a-mob could be assembled to troll you.

I'm reminded a bit about a pre-covid congressional grilling of Facebook's Mark Zuckerberg.

When a senator asked " Could you please give us your personal cell # and disclose the hotel address where you're staying ? Not surprisingly, he declined.

I think the points have been made, that privacy does matter. A lot. Nuff said

ted has a 2 million dollar house: is it reasonable to surmise this might be in a gated, patrolled community purchased to ted does not have to mix with his public.... So he can remain insulated, away from the riff-raff?

Irrelevant. It's a policy violation. I do not believe any firm has a policy exception for people you do not agree with.
